Living Green Case Study: Environmentally Friendly Log Homes
Duvall, WA (PRWEB) September 23, 2008 -- The Log Home Builders Association today announced support for the Living Green event, an environmentally-friendly remodeling case study focused on LHBA member Mike Vowels log home in Duvall, Washington. On Saturday, September 27th, homeowners will have the opportunity to tour the home and see how a remodeling project can incorporate sustainable building practices. In addition, visitors can meet green remodeling contractors and suppliers at the event.
The log home of Mr. Vowels was initially built on site from trees that were harvested on the property and then re-planted, creating a "near zero" forestry footprint. Wood scraps were even reclaimed for interior carpentry projects such as stairs and window trim. Later, Mike added a native-style bogscape fed by a gray water system from the house, and incorporated solar features as well.
Mr. Vowels initially built his log home from scratch after attending a two day class offered by the Log Home Builders Association. For more information on the LHBA or their two-day log home school, visit www.loghomebuilders.org or call 360-794-4469.
