Nonprofit Sustainability: MissionWise® Conducts Intellectual Property Workshops for Grantmakers and Nonprofits
Seattle, WA (PRWEB) September 25, 2008 -- MissionWise®, the consulting division of Comprehensive Health Education Foundation (C.H.E.F.®) that helps health and human service organizations become stronger and more sustainable in their efforts to eliminate health inequities, is conducting an Intellectual Property workshop today in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho and Friday in Spokane, Washington. In Coeur d'Alene, the session takes place at the 2008 Philanthropy Northwest Annual Conference and Membership Meeting. In Spokane, the workshop will be jointly sponsored by MissionWise and Inland Northwest Community Foundation. Both sessions are geared to executive staff and management of nonprofits, foundations, education, and government agencies.
Led by co-presenters Larry Clark, President and CEO of C.H.E.F., and Michael Oxman, MissionWise Consultant, the premise for both workshops is simple: many health and human service nonprofits possess intellectual assets (including trademarks, patents, and copyrights) that represent potential sources of revenue. Often times, these organizations are unaware of this untapped potential and the risks that are involved in not protecting their intellectual property. During these sessions, participants will consider the different forms of intellectual property and learn how to assess, protect, and capitalize on their organization's intellectual property.
"There is significant interest and desire by health and human service foundations, their grantees, and nonprofits of all kinds to better understand Intellectual Property and its application to many public sector products, services, and programs," said Larry Clark, C.H.E.F.'s President and CEO. "MissionWise conducts a series of workshops on a wide variety of topics related to social enterprise, and this one is always popular."
Clark continued, "Those in attendance in Spokane and Coeur d'Alene will find this workshop highly informative, practical, and useful, and we look forward to helping the organizations identify untapped opportunities to achieve stronger outcomes by considering the application of Intellectual Property to their mission and programs."
Clark and his MissionWise team are uniquely qualified to address the topic of Intellectual Property because their own organization, Comprehensive Health Education Foundation, is a successful social enterprise that has made it an integral and important discipline for more than thirty years.
